I need to find out what day of the week 11th May 760 fell on, and having tried various of the 'perpetual calendars' available on the internet am disconcerted to find that they give contradictory answers. Can anyone direct me to a 100% reliable one, please?
Or, if anyone has the means of producing a definitive solution to the question directly, I would be delighted to hear.
I guess the differences are due different calendars (Julian, Gregorian, not to mention non-European calendars). So to have an accurate answer you need first to tell us which calendar are you interested in. The people living in 760 certainly used a different calendar than we do, so the day of the week computed after today calendars will most likely not be the same with the day of the week they considered to be in (unless by coincidence).
I used the Julian calendar to make it a Sunday. The Christian world used the Julian at that time, and I'm assuming (for reasons that Gengolphus may or may not want me to point out) that we're talking about Burgundy. You get a different answer if you backdate Gregory's changes to the beginning, but that would be an unusual approach. In that case it would have been a Wednesday.
Anyway it has to be a Western calendar for 'May 11' to make sense.
Thank you gcle2003 for this clarification. Wednesday and Sunday were precisely the two contradictory answers I had already received from internet sources. Wednesday, from what you say, is evidently an answer generated from less sophisticated programmes. No, I have no objection to my habitat being mentioned - it is an area with great natural advantages. Thank you so much for your help.
