Certain people I know of good financial capacity have elegantly circumvented this issue by a simple purchase of all three consoles (Xbox360, PS3 and Wii) and an upgrade of their PC. Others might say this is foolish unless you plan to spend all your spare time from now till judgement day playing games in order to play enough on each console to justify their purchase. I think they do though.
Personally I am more modest and will buy just a PS3 as soon as my studies are over, mainly because of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII, although atm I look forward to playing Grand Theft Auto 4, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Dynasty Warriors 6. The former three are also Xbox360 releases, but reviewers say the PS3 version of Oblivion is a slight improvement over the Xbox360 version, although you can top both with a new high end PC.
It has come to my notice that Age of Conan will be released on the Xbox360 and not the PS3 (it can of course be played on a PC but I'd love to avoid it, see my gripe with PCs in the previous post), which is a slight annoyance, and the latest Fire Emblem game has been released exclusively on Wii. You win some and lose some.
