That's was indeed the case until the end of feudal age. It's a popular misconception that ninja all wore black clothings and throwing exotic weapons like shuriken. Ninja, to some degree, were professional warriors (Most of them were mercernaries and assassins, since profit was crucial in any secret brotherhood) aimed to achieve the goal as efficiently and as effectively as possible, even if their methods may be unacceptable to Japanese honor code. While it's true that samurai warriors saw guns as dishonorable weapon, they often use them in the operations in the end of Imjin War and other times when the situations became desparate. Ninja often deployed gunpowder weapons, though they still relied on traditional weapons due to import restrictions. Even samarai changed their attitude when they were defeated by American warships.
 
 
And yes, ninjas are highly ranked warriors. Usage of the word, soldier, may have been inappropriate since warriors used any means. Mercernary is much better word I could have used.

Ninja were often deployed for scouts and spies by the major political powers in Japan only because there were no other jobs that were available for ninjas. Ninja do not value loyalty and honor, the important expectations for all Japanese military. As well, samurai and other military units would complain about how these lawless and dishonorable ninjas are taking away their jobs. Primary function of ninjas, Ulrich Wolff, is for them to achieve the goal. Just because SEAL units or other elite soldiers are tactically retreating because they failed to achieve the goal does not mean that they are poor warriors. I am sure that many elite and well trained ninja have a fair chance against samurai. The only advantage samurai will have is the fact that samurai warriors are generally more wealthy, and they will have better weapons and armors.

Shocked But really, ninja don't get sea-sick often. Especially after the Imjin war, many ninja were trained to be efficient in water combats after learning Japanese weakness in navy. Few giant Japanese warship... more like fortress, were easily attacked by specially trained ninja troops...

Ninjas, traditionally, are stealth assassins - trained in a variety of fighting styles. There are times, however, when combat isn't required; when struggle needs not the exquisite edge of the blade, subtler means become necessary. Snuggles.

They're also quite adept at the Sneak Snuggle, and the Fists of Tickle Fury. Cloaked in the night, these Wee Ninjas are perfect for cuddling their quarry into submission.

The Wee Ninja is 9 inches tall and 8 inches wide, while his younger cousin, pocket ninja, is 5 by 5. Both ninja are handmade in Chicago, and are as plush and cuddly as they are deadly.
