Coco Cola is not culture, niether is Mcdonalnds. When i Eat Kebab, i
don't suddenly turn in to a Turkish person, nor do i get much in the
ways of Turkish culture, its just a snack afterall, symbolism aside.
Many people can eat and drink American, but that doesn't make them
American in terms of how they think, their outlook, their attitude,
their mentality, and so forth, and the patterns that this forms, in a
word, culture.
Immitation maybe a form of flattery, but it is not the same as being, otherwise I'm Indonesian.
Well, I will agree that Americanization is a reality
only in places where the American way of life is a
"propaganda" and to people that adapt the American
dream, which are mostly countries with low educational
level. OTOH, i must say that
if there is a McD outside my house or a coke on any
markets shell it's cause people prefer it. It's
capitalism (economy) not culture.
In other words, I would prefer to go to work with a
sheet over my body but I think it is less convenient
(thought comfortable in summer)
than jeans. As for MTV, most Albanian people are
listening Greek music but I wouldn't call Albanian
people greeklized. I for
one dislike MTV.
I wouldn't go so far as calling Alexander a
globalist but surely the globalization process began
from the Roman Empire. The reality is that the culture
today is vs economy !
