Anything and everything you want to talk about American football, post them right here.

I know Belichick is getting into trouble for videotaping the Jets' defensive coaches, but I still think the Pats might come back for a dynasty this year.  Although this would mean that they won't get a 1st round pick in 2008 (for those who don't know: as a penalty for videotaping the Jets' defensive coaches, Belichick and the Pats were fined, and the Pats will forfeit the 1st round draft pick in 2008 if they make the playoffs, and forfeit the 2nd and 3rd round draft picks if they don't make the playoffs), winning a 4th championship is probably more important.  Any thoughts?

I know there is another thread already, but that thread has gone into the tangent of American football v. rugby (AGAIN!).  I hope this thread can bring back focus to talking about the current American football season.

This is a slight bump on this thread as I love football and wish it more coverage.

Onto the whole Belichek thing..... I think that the appropriate punishment is a first round pick, but seeing as the Patriots have two they should forfeit both picks or sacrifice their 2nd and 3rd rounders as well (their choice).

If this happens again or anything similar to it (headsets in Foxborough losing signal). Then the NFL should operate like NCAA football works and ban the Patriots from post-season play. Sure you can win 16 games in a season and have the best team in the NFL but you don't get to play for the SuperBowl.

I don't like how a lot of people say that this will tarnish Belichek's AND Brady's chances at the Hall of Fame. I mean Belichek I can understand, but Brady? Are you kidding me, how is he even remotely involved in this? He's not, but it's the whole jealousy thing that many people have on Brady.

I'm biased but will freely admit I hate the patriots, not just because of their winning, but I think Belichek's an ass, Carolina got robbed in the Patriots 2nd superbowl victory, and New Englanders are squaking pricks. It is for those reasons that I wish failure on the Patriots, but I don't see that happening and it looks like we'll see:

Asterisk? Season has only begun and a long way to the super bowl. Let's say NE does get in. Is that because they have an awsome team or due to getting a few calls of your opponent down pat?

Used to be where most everyone cheated to get an edge. That's why teams have multiple signal callers in funky sign language. Cause people are looking and deciphering the plays. Maybe coaches need to hide some more underneath their clipboards. Spies in the stands is nothing new either. The only difference is having one with a videotape and getting caught. Yeah, it is wrong. But cheating is nothing new either. Now Goodell will have the league look into all 32 teams videotaping practices.

Ray Anderson, the league's yexecutive vice president of football operations, wrote: "Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game."

Last interesting bit on Belichick. The Patriots employee was caught with camera at hand spying on the NY Jets who are coached by Eric Mangini. He used to be a previous defensive coordinator with the Patriots before picking up the current head coach job in 2005.

Now onto some football. Still too early in the season but my guess is the top teams will be the Patriots, Colts, Steelers and a number of wannabes. Sentimental favorite that always gets me into a state of fury are the Detroit Lions.

Just two words, GO VIKINGS!!!

Belichick probably should have been suspended for some games.  Wade Wilson took HGH for the bedroom and got 5 games and he's not even a player but a coach.  The problem is we don't really know exactly what he was doing and how big of an advantage it was.

The asterisk is a joke, kind of like how many people want to put "Barry Bonds Home Run Record*".

I do agree it's a long way to the superbowl, but did you see how they manhandled San Diego, the team I have picked to win the SuperBowl.

The videocamera thing actually doesn't bother me so much as there is only so limited a time to make corrections on plays (there might be enough time to review the tape to make corrections at halftime though). The issue that really irks me is the accusations that visiting teams at Foxboro experience radio communication glitches between the Coaching staff and the quarterback. This IMMEDIATELY affects the game, and is most definitely the worst variety of cheating.

Sadly the Steelers do look awfully good so far, and the Patriots instead of losing a first round draft pick should suffer a 10 million dollar cap penalty next year......on second thought, both.

The Lions are 2-0.  I wonder what's the Vegas odds on the Lions making NFC championship.  I know it's the Lions I'm talking about but they are in NFC.
Lions vs Cardinals on NFC championship, baby!  Okay, it's time to take my pills.

King Kang of Miracles that is truly a visual hallucination worth its flight of fancy. Take me along while you are at it.Lamp Being that the previous edition of the Lions used to give up in close games now they are actually trying to win. I'm still waiting for the big meltdown one of these days. Btw, last Sunday I never would have thought to be cheering for Kitna to re-enter the game. How times have changed. LOL

Ah, yes the 2-0 lions.  Even though we lost, that was quite a game.  If our quarterback hadn't thrown 4 interceptions, it might have been different.  God I hope he improves.  They are definitely better this year.  Maybe the crowd will stop begging for Millens (sp.?)  firing.Wink

Anyone watching the NCAA games?  Being obssessively focused on my alma mater (UC Berkeley -- go Cal!) I don't think I have enough to say about other teams.  I would say, though, that USC has a very good shot at national champ this year, the way they destroyed Nebraska.  As much as I hate and abhor the USC team with every bone in my body, they are a very enjoyable team to watch.

But Cal is doing exceptionally well so far.  I"m surprised they are up so high in the ranking so early in the season.  USC is, needless to say, a big hurdle ahead.  UCLA used to be a factor, but I think now everyone is taking them much more lightly (I'm going to the Cal v. UCLA game though.)  The win against Tennessee definitely took us to a great start.  Gotta be careful about those Pac 10 teams though, cuz you never know (like last year's loss to Arizona.)  The Cal defense worries me the most.

If possible I am a bigger college football fan than pro.  The punt returner for Cal is amazing, watched him in the Tennessee game.  I am a huge Michigan fan, so as you can imagine this year has been less than happy.  Minnesota as usual isn't any good, at least Texas is still in it.  That Nebraska game was good for the first ten minutes, then it was just a beat down.  Have fun at the Cal/UCLA game!  I've only ever been to one college football game, Minnesota versus Purdue back in 99', saw Drew Brees destroy the Tyrone Carter led Golden Gophers.

USC is one tough dynasty to crack. Maybe Oregon and Cal will give 'em a go in the pack ten. Michigan is blowing chunks this year. I've always been a Meechigan fan since the days of BoB Ufer, General Bo and the dreaded Buckeyes of Woody Hayes. Here's a soundclip to reminisce by:

Unless they win the Big Ten and actually win a cotton pick'in Rose Bowl then redemption is illusive.

Top tier: USC, LSU, Florida, and until WV gets a defense I'll add Oklahoma to stick it out the for whole season.

I know I'll be crashing down hardcore.  But let me enjoy while it lasts.  You know it's really bad when you miss the glory daysBig%20smile of Wayne FontesLOL.  At least he was entertaining and the players played for him.
