I do. What do you want to know about it?

My personal opinion is that the Cuban revolution was fought for a good reason, but that after so many years of dictatorship it has lost its meaning.

When the revolution started Cuba was one of the most developed countries of Latin America, today its people live in misery. I hope things changes for good in the future in that island.

With respect to the Che, I think he was an adventurer. He went to Bolivia to export a revolution Bolivians didn't want. He lost its life on that bad decision.

It is difficult that you, as a member of a capitalist society, could graps comunist idealism. You should read something about that ideology to understand the motivations of the Che. In short, he fought for justice. In his own mind and in the mind of large number of people in Latin America, he was a hero.

Talking about pre-revolution Cuba and the reasons of the revolution, did anybody watch the movie "Soy Cuba",1964?
Well, I know it's a propaganda movie, but purely from a cinematographic point of view it's just beautiful.
I'm particularly interested to see the opinions of the experienced with L.America history members on the historical aspects of the movie.

Soy Cuba is really amazing. In my opinion, it has the best cinematography I've ever seen in a movie. With regards to the historical accuracy, I'd say that the movie is more or less realistic, with a few exagerations. However, I don't think the revolution greatly changed the way of life that was portrayed in the movie. There are still destitute farmers, prostitutes barely making ends meet, and idealistic students who oppose the autocratic regime (albeit controlled by a different dictator).

In my opinion, Cuba has payed a huge prize for its dignity.... To be independent of the U.S. influence has cost them to support a dictator for half a century, and stand a regime that really doesn't work at all.

Cuba was one of the richest Latin American countries at the revolution. Today is one of the few poorest, close to Guatemala... Poverty and prostitution continuous. The only difference is that today a poor young can study medicine and escape abroad to become rich.

You are wrong. Cuban regime works very well.

Cuba before the revolution was not rich. There were rich people in it, but the people were poor.

Cuba is an island close to the world's largest economy, which embargoes it. In fact US not only embargoes Cuba, but actively sabotages it for decades.

For a country sabotaged by the US for decades, Cuba is doing really really good.

Haiti gives us a very good clue, a country similar in size, population and location to Cuba, to what Cuba would be like today, if the Revolution never took place.

According to the UN human development index, Cuba is a developed country, ahead of most other Carribean countries, despite decades of American sponsored terror. They have by far the best regime in the Carribean region.

Comparing Cuba and Haiti is a sad exercise. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with a level of development only matched by SS Africa. Even Guatemala looks like a developed country if compared with Haiti.

Now, it is quite clear that Cuba is today poorer than in the past. Or, at least, has not developed at the same rate that the rest of Latin America at all. It is also clear that when Castro finally passes away, and after the honours end, Cuba will have a chance to develop pretty fast.

Cuba has an educated population (and always had) and it is a matter of time it retake its possition as leader in Latin America. Today is in pretty bad shape as all Latinos know, because they visit the island regularly and come back pretty sad.

Howdy apesako, you've been hanging around Jhangora too much.
