Cryptozoology is the study of animals hypothesized to exist, and animals thought to be extinct.

Many people know of famous 'cryptids', such as Bigfoot, but there are many, many more.

Have any of you seen a cryptid, or heard stories of sightings in your area? Do you believe in any cryptids?

I personally haven't seen any, but sometime in the next few years my friend and I want to search for Bigfoot in Washington State, and the shunka warakin (American Hyena), which is native to the Great Plains, where I live! (on the edge of them, anyway).

Share your thoughts on cryptids, sightings, legends, etc.

Cryptozoology has always fascinated me; the mystery and even scariness associated with many of the cryptids in particular.
I am most interested in the whole "big cat" debacle. England and Australia both have numerous legends about these big cats roaming around the bush or countryside.

My cousins who live in Shropshire (UK) have seen one of such cats. They claim it was larger than their German Shepherd. I'll have to take their word on this one, as they didn't have any video camera on hand. As far as I was told, when laws and policies regarding possession of big cats in private collection in the UK were introduced, many panthers and pumas were just let go in the countryside. This seems the most plausible reason to me, rather than something like them naturally living there...

Apparently it's also possible that the northeastern puma-which lived in the north-east of the united states rather than in florida or the west/midwest and was thought to be extinct-might be alive. there have been a lot of sightings, but as usual no concrete proof so far.

Also, it's fun to wonder if we'll ever encounter something really unusual and large in the oceans. As unlikely as it may be, I really hope that someone finds something really unusual, like nessie or something. It'd be too fun...

The people who live on "The Post Road" which winds through Vermont and New Hampshire, have all the proof they need.  They have been sighting that animal for 15 years.  None of the photos taken were considered conclusive.

Even though they have been all but defunct, some insist on their existence...

What I would be very interested to discover would be the Thylacine. Who knows, Tasmania isn't that small of a place.

Yeah, the thylacine would be a fascinating find. I read an article about how it's possible that the main reason they (apparently) went extinct might have been the simple fact that dingoes' skulls can handle the stress of holing on to struggling prey better. Apparently, if a thylacine tried too hard to hold on to, for instance,an adult kangaroo, it's skull might break!

actually, no, I haven't seen them. But that's a really, really, weird article. Not that small, incredibly fast flying things is IMPOSSIBLE, but the concept is just so surreal, and through-the-looking-glass-like.

Funny you should mention that. Only a few days ago, i was thinking about doing a paper on the rods.

Spooky in kind of an interesting way, though.

Something i would like to know is what caused the very loud "bloop" noise the navy picked up. I'm not totally convinced it was some sort of huge octopus or something, but it irks me to know that the cause is still uncertain.
