My question to today's Turks, Mongols, Hungarians or Tungus. Do you think that nomadic culture is still alive in your daily life?

I'm not any of that, but my family is only a few generations from their nomadic way of life.

My grandmother still knows many nomadic dishes that are indigenous to Afghans which include Lamb jerkies, Dried/cultured milk snacks, and ofcourse the furniture would fit more in a tent than a house (mats and cushions to sit in) and ofcourse the dinnermat on the floor where Afghans gather around to eat their dinner.

Also the ethnic nomad clothes that Afghans wear for Eid and Naweh Kaal / Nou Rooz.

Yes, there still are Yoruk nomads roaming about in Turkey. This is a far cry from the modern yoruk who retreats to his/her yayla over the weekends during summer months to take in the cool mountain air and watch soccer on the television.

i think that nomadic way of life still lives in some of us, in good weather here Turkish people seek for a place to have fun with whole family and do barbecue etc even they have a place to barbecue at home they prefer open space with tree's and such.

When I go to some Turks house I ask "are you moving house"? because they fold up and layer their carpets, rugs, quilts and pillows all in the corner of the room as if they're going somewhere.

Also the "Yaylag/Yaylak", "Gishlag/Kishlak" customs of summer and winter residences stem from nomadic culture.

And almost every Turk I know likes nothing better than a hot day, large tree to sit under in the shade next to running water, a mangal, family and friends, music, songs, dance, great food, non-stop teas and a cold Ayran Tongue
