Topic: Ottoman Empire or Bulgaria. Posted: 24-Jun-2007 at 04:17 |
By 'bigger', i'm refferring not only to size. I'm talking about military strength, economic strength and (possibly foremost) political strength.
I was just wondering about this, what do you people think? Thanks.
P.S. Yes i know the timeline is very vague, but i'm presuming it to be around the 18th and 19th century.

Is there a reason for comparing the two in the 18th and 19th centuries? Polls asking which is better or bigger are by nature quite vague.

It's an obvious thread and i do apologize for the uncontructive nature of this post to the forum.
However, some bulgarians seem to think otherwise, and i just wanted to see what the public thought :)

This is just what I expected. aslanar, please do not try to start any arguments based on nationalism or irredentism. Everyone has had quite enough of these types of topics already.
Now, if you would like to discuss the military, political, economic, or religious history of the Ottoman Empire or the region of Bulgaria in the 18th and 19th centuries, please do. All that I ask is that you be objective and discuss history.

Bulgaria was stronger. Much, much stronger and superior...economically, militarily, spiritually, they even had more space explorations than the Ottomans did.

Yes but i was having an arguament on another post, and i didn't want to make it off-topic -thus i made this post. This isn't for nationalism saying 'my country is better then yours'. This is saying at this time period, the Ottoman Empire was bigger then Bulgaria. If my historical knowledge is wrong, i'd like to be corrected, wouldn't you?

Ok, now to turn this thread off-topic, and into a direction that i myself will find more interesting. Apart from the major European Empires (and i guess we can include Japan's Pacific Empire), how many smaller states could be counted as bigger then the Ottoman Empire?
