I think it achieved a great deal as it ended segregation in most places// any other opinions pleasE?

Yes, it did. It effectively ended all institutionalized racial discrimination in the United States. While racism obviously exists to this day, the civil rights movement fought against racism that hid behind the protection of legislation.

The U.S. civil rights movement is one of the greatest social movements in the U.S. It is much longer than most people believe. The foundation for the final stage of it, which is what most people think about when they think about the Civil Rights movement was put in placed quickly after the Supreme Court decision legalizing segregation was issued.

The final stage is also considered the second greatest non violence movement in history after Gandhi's struggle in India.

It also made racism socially unacceptable in the US.
