The largest ocean on the glode is called "INdian ocean".
 
Why?
 
For how long, it is being called so?
 
What is the significance behind it?
 
Can Indian has any credit to that effect?

The largest ocean in the world is called Pacific.
 
Indian ocean is called ''indian'' propably, because it surrounds the Indian sub-continent and that's the only credit that India can get.

No, because it is the ocean that lay before India when European trade ships had to go around Africa.  That is why.

I doubt that Zagros, at the moment that the Ptolemy Egypt had the title "Commander of the Red and Indian Seas".

In 1519, Megallen named the water body, which was so calm, as "Pacific ocean".

The Atlantic ocean derives its name from the Greek mythology, meaning the "Sea of Atlas." The oldest known mention of this name is reportedly contained in The Histories of Herodotus around 450 BCE.

The Arctic ocean was named recently. Actually oceanographers call it the Arctic Mediterranean Sea or simply the Arctic Sea, classifying it as one of the mediterranean seas of the Atlantic ocean.
 
Whereas, Indian ocean was known as such even by the Egyptians c.3000 BCE, when they were visiting Punt.
 
Of course, the trade with IVC during c.2500 BCE is well established one, as they had to come through Indian ocean.

1. The largest ocean on the glode is called "INdian ocean". Why?
The ocean had been so dominated by the Indians since c.3100 BCE (this the date of Mahabharat war, after which the kingdoms and dynaties scatter), that it was known as "Indian ocean. 
 
For how long, it is being called so?
As mentioned above. The dating is connected with the evidences of shipping, ship-technology, knowledge of longitude-latitude, cartography, stellar navigation, mathematical and astronomical tables, charts and maps etc.
 
What is the significance behind it?
The historrical dominance proves the significance. From the ancient Egyptians' search for Punt to the medieval "European" search for "route to India" vouchsafes the fact.
 
Can Indian has any credit to that effect?
Definitely, had Indians not dominated on the oceanic waters, none would have cared for to mention and recognize as "Indian ocean".
