Greetings!
Could anyone answer this questions?
Why did jesus spoke on the cross Aramaic and not Hebrew/jewish?
What was the status of the Aramaic language throughtout the centuries in the Middle East?
Is there literature in this language?I have read that the Talmud is written in this language. Why did the jews use mostly this language and not Hebrew?

Thanks in advance
nik

I can help by stating what I know that Aramaic was the lingua-franca of the Middle East. The Western branch of the language became the dominent in the region. Actually from Aramaic, hebrew and Nabatean (the father of modern Arabic) were derived from it.

Is there literature in Aramaic? of course!
