what would happen to Tibetians and the whole Tibetian Buddist society when dalai lama pass away? it's unlikely that Chinese communist government will be replaced by the time. i mean, for sure Beijing will find a new Dalai just like how they find the new Panchan and on the other side, tibetians in other countries will find a Dalai amoung them-self

The Chinese have already found a new Lhama. The guy's alright for a normal person walking down the street, but as the Dalai Lhama he needs to adjust his attitude, such as be more Buddhist monk and less cowboy(Tibetan style).

i thought they only fond the new panchan, you need to know that there are two Lhama, one is called Panchan Lhama and the other one is called Dalai Lhama. Dalai have more power than Panchan. followed by the death of Panchan 10th, Beijing immediatly found a new Panchan, which is Panchan the 11th, and i m pretty sure Beijing will do the same when Dalai pass away, but Dalai Lhama have already spread the word that the new Dalai Lhama would not nessasarily be from Tibet, as a result, there will be 2 Dalai Lhama, my question is what will happen then?

I have a question too that how is the new Dalai lama choosed? Dose it have any explicit stipulation or tacit requirement? If so, I think the new one has alread been predestined inevitably by so-called oracle rather than the welter based on two Dalai lama.

Or perhaps a schism between the supporters of the Communist Lama and the Rebel Lama?

As I understand the system, a new Dalai Lama is selected before the passing of the old one.  In effect, they are never without living spiritual leadership.

It would be interesting if the Christians has such a system.  The Catholics do, but the Pope must die before a new one is selected through a frankly political process.

Since I'm agnostic, details like that tend not to concern me very much, although I can appreciate their impact on the affected populations.

One of Buddha's teachings was that there was no "self" or soul. What exactly is it that transfers from the dead Lama to his successor?

The Nechung oracle is first consulted on where the search should take place for candidates for the position of Dalai Lama. It is then that the previous Dalai Lama's possessions are mixed with other random objects. Those choosing that which belonged to the previous Dalai Lama are taken for training to be the new Dalai Lama. However if there are numerous candidates found then the names of the candidates are placed in an urn and chosen in public. The present Dalai Lama has stated that the next reincarnation will not occur in China while his homeland is not free.
What a handsome figure of a dragon. No wonder I fall madly in love with the Alani Dragon now, the avatar, it's a gorgeous dragon picture.

The next Lama could be born in India as it has a large population of Tibetan Buddhist refugees

To his credit where he is born is immaterial. He will like those before him despiring of violence.. knowing full well the history of the race and the position violence plays....which is to say...he... remains an appeaser for a greater good which will not be seen simply because he wishes it. Because he will not intervene. So is the history of appeasement. So then is the loss of time until men of war lay down the swords not because of him but in spite of him. And in truth never needed his alleged motivation any more then others.

Because before we venerate his wisdom...then must we venerate that which came before and is still being ignored.

And until that happens piss gets sprayed back into the wind in which you do it. To include your face.

No, Dalai doesn't necessarily have more power than Panchan.  Usually when a young Dalai was found, the living Panchan was already a mature man.  So Panchan would be in charge.  And when this Panchan died, the Dalai would have grown and be in charge instead.  So it's a complementary cycle.  Dalai in theory had more seniority than Panchan when studying under their master, though.
