Are you serious about that? Where did you find the research that says that?

I also live in the midwest and see many farms being sold so new houses can be built, so the idea that the U.S. midwest can feed the world seems a bit of a stretch. There have also been droughts in parts of the midwest lately, so there is less being produced this year.

Most people are not farmers, but most land is being farmed.

I do play cards every christmas in Minnesota with family. Mainly wist, but my Scandanavian grandparents played pinnocle.

Things I noticed as stereotypes:

Peloponnesians: rude and sleazy.
Thessalonikians: they only have the White Tower and are envious because they are not Athenians. They also talk funny.
Cretans: weirdos in moustaches. They'll either have you as a guest for a month or kill you on spot. Also, no one understands what they're saying with all the 'ch' usage.
Islanders: Lazy bastards who only work for summers.
Pontians: already mentioned.

In any case, most Athenians consider any non-Athenian a Vlach. (peasant) Tongue

Athenians are Vlachs that think they are New Yorkers. They think that they drive best (which is somewhat true, in that the villagers are generally horrible drivers), even though they break almost every law about driver's conduct. They don't understand why the northeners don't like them, even though Attica (the area where Athens is) alone draws more than 50% of the state's investments.

Thessaloniki has always been a cosmopolitan metropolis. Athens was a village in a land with albanian population.

Xristar, I only live in Athens, I am not Athenian as such. Smile I just wanted to share my observation of Athenians and stereotypes from their point of view. I have never been to Thessaloniki (unfortunately) but I've heard so much about, not just the city itself, but its people too. Everyone seems to love it.

You're right about the history of Thessaloniki, of course. It was an important city for a long time whereas Athens had lost its importance in the Christian era. It wasn't even the first capital of modern Greece.

Oh, and, don't get me started about the traffic! Thank God I don't have to drive around here, or I would have been dead by now.

Where to start?Disapprove

Apparantly all Irish have red hair and frekles
The common greeting is top'o'the mornin to you
We all speak with dodgy half Dublin half country accents
We're leperachains and we love shamrocks
We drink like fishes esp Guiness

Well I'm a proper dub with a proper accent. I have dark hair and about 3 frekles in all. Ok I'm short ( 5ft) but not that short and personally I jsut greet people with hey or hello or hw are you. And I'll dinr at most 3 when I go out and I HATE beer.

Please people get over the stereotypes!Angry
