Can the colour codes (like say #3300FF) be used with the [color] tag?
Or only the colours that are listed.
I tried different ways using color=#number and it doesn't seem to work, is there a wierd way of doing it? Or do the forums not support it?

I think no, becouse this is a rich text editor programmed with JAVA (i think). The color codes like #3300FF belong to HTML and not compatible with JAVA.

You should remoe the color code in the last part ([/ color])
