I know I might be annoying, but there is only one Macedonia, and it is Greek.

There's only one Egypt too, but no one makes such a fuss between Ancient Egypt and modern Egypt.

But everyone knows Alexander was a Slav - kidding!

Me, personally, I don't see the fuss. They claim they've called themselves Macedonians since they settled there. I wouldn't mind Vadarska or something as the name, it makes just as much sense - but I really, really, really don't understand the Greek arguement, it seems childish to me.

Yes, their nationalists are being childish too - claiming all these things, but everyone knows better.

It's just as well to let them be. You fight them, it makes them worse. Just laugh at them.

This is a topic about music in the Balkans, please keep it that way!

Well when I am listeninig some american country music or madona or other world pop music I can't dance with all my soul but when I am listening some song from Bulgaria,Greece,Turkey,Srbia and other balkanstates. All then I become crazy.
Everyone know Goran Bregovic,Mustafa Sandal,Despina Vandi,Ivo Papazov,Kiss me and so  on.
And do you know that in the space there is a spaceship with a song of Valia Balkanska. The song is mix from all world music. And it's goal is to be heard by aliens.I am not joking.

To Yiannis..

Would you really say there is no such thing as Balkan music these days and only pop music? I mean, what category would you put the music of Greek singers such as Nikos Kourkoulis, Lefteris Pantazis, Pachalis Terzis in? I think Red Lord is referring to this type of music as well as other very ethnic sounding music from Balkan countries, would this not be classified as Balkan music?

Even the pop music is balkan music when compared to the music of other places...

Anyways I like Balkan music, there's a huge variety of it.   It would say my favorites are Gajdas (bagpipes) which are used in a lot of areas, and Serbian accordion music, and Romanian violin music.

I'd call it: "Balkan turbo pop noise". I hesitate to call it "music" as it would be a huge injustice to music, to call this kind of crap as such. I'd say that the above are a "filthy fly on the beautiful face of music"

No offence intended...

I Bulgarian folk song for Leonidas to die with

Translation - mine:

Go down. go down, bright Sun, go down, darken yourself.
Go away, go away, bright Moon, go down, drown yourself.
Mourn, Forest, mourn, my sister, let's mourn, both of us
You for your leaves, Forest, I for my youth.
Your leaves, Forest, my sister, will get back to you.
My youth, Forest, my sister, will never come back to me.
