Theban Sacred Band vs Scotish Highlanders

I'd bet on the dunken Scots over the orderly Greeks in a fight any day. 

 In a pub with an ample supply of chairs to throw about i'm sure the Scots would wipe the floor with the Thebans

They are both wearing skirts, can't they settle this with a knitting competition

The highlanders! Though the thebans aren't english, their favourit dish, they would be wiped as well.

No, the Highlanders would win if they mooned the Thebans.  The Thebans would run to the Highlanders without their weapons and the Highlanders would take out their claymores and win one for good auld Scotland the Brave!

Come to think of it, isn't most of Greece highlands?

Oh God the only advantage the Scotts have is there weapons but in terms of training, armor, discipline the Sacred Band wins hands down and then some.  The Scotts would be butchered like cattle.  Look it wasn't until they were inducted into the British army and their marshal upringing was comined with British discipline that the highlanders gained much of their reputation as crack fighters.

Actually, I'd think that the Thebans' choice of orientation might be an extra incentive for the Scots to raise a little Hell on them.  However, the Hellenes would also be driven by their dislike of barbarians, of which the Scots would just be the latest addition to the list.

If you've set this on an open plain, I don't know if the Greeks had thought of an eclosed shield wall formation yet, but they'd probably have to think of one fast before the Scots figure out that the flanks are quite open.  Sans any cavalry support or ranged infantry (slingers, javelineers or archers), the phalanx in open space has only one direction that those pointy sticks are going -- in front.  A rampaging Scotsman swinging a long iron sword is going to find that open right flank mighty tasty...
