Tiger kills lion in Turkish zoo

A Bengal tiger has killed a lion at Ankara Zoo after finding a gap in the fence separating their cages, say zoo officials in the Turkish capital.

The tiger severed the lion's jugular vein in a single stroke with its paw, leaving the animal dying in a pool of blood, officials said.

They denied local media reports that the tiger had broken down the fence during the incident last September.

The zoo says it is safe for visitors, despite the incident.

Six tigers and two lions remain at the zoo.

2.) “In 1857 a tiger at Bromwich broke into the cage of a lion and a fearful scene ensued: ‘the lions mane saved his head and neck from being much injured, but the tiger at last succeeded in ripping up his belly, and in a few minutes he was dead. -The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex. Charles Darwin”

Lions, Tigers, And Me. - Roman Proske

" It was then that the tiger, in a supreme effort, with one bite crushed the lion's neck while the lion, in his death agony, tore the scalp from his trainers head."

5.) Chicago Daily Tribune, Apr 22, 1882

A TIGER KILLS A LION.
Exciting Scenes Incidental to Moving a Menagerie.

Philadelphia Press

"The exodus of nearly 500 tenants from the vicinity of Lehigh avenue and Richmond Street, yesterday, and their departure for Washington last evening, caused no little stir in that usually quarter of the city. The exodusters represented nearly every species in the animal kingdom, from a poll-parrot to Bolivar. "King of the Mastodons," and it was their transfer from the winter quarters of Forepaugh's show to the Centennial siding of the Pennsylvania Road, from which the annual tour of the aggregation was last night begun, that occasioned all this commotion. An unlooked-for tragedy was enacted in the midst of the work of transfer. In the same den were kept two lions and two tigers, separated by a strong wooden partition. To such a pitch of ferocity was one of the tigers stirred by the arrangements for the removal that he threw himself in a very frenzy of rage against the partition, pounced upon one of the lions, and, before the keepers could lift an arm, fixed his fangs deep into the throat of his victim. A torrent of blood gushed forth, and the king of beasts desperately attempted to throw off his assailant, but it was no use; the tiger's grip was death, and almost on the instant the prostrate lion, with a spasmodic effort of head and limbs, fell back cold and stiff. By that time a dozen hands were raining blows upon the head of the ferocious brute, who stood over the slain lion with glaring eyes and blood-dyed jaws, and stunned by the sudden attack he was secured with ropes and dragged into a closed cage."

6.)Tiger mauls lion to death in Tower of London. 1831. Tigress played little role in the incident.

Wild Beasts: A Study of the Characters and Habits of the Elephant, Lion … by John Hampden Porter - Animal behavior - 1894 - Page 239 "How often a conflict between animals so formidable ends in the assailant's repulse or death, we do not know, neither can we say whether bison's are habitually attacked by tigers. Lions destroy the African buffalo either singly or by taking odds ; and in a personal contest, the tiger would generally have the advantage over a lion. They have often been pitted against each other, and the general result is well known to be as stated. Junglar, who belonged to the King of Oude, killed thirty lions, and destroyed another after being transferred to the zoological garden in London. "

8.) PawTucket, Ri
Saba a 13-year old 550-pound tiger, has killed his 7-year-old female companion at the Slater Park Zoo. An attendant found the dead 300-pound tigress when investigating a disturbance at the animals cages. Saba had killed two lions in a circus before he was bought by the zoo. The zoo had hoped to mate the tigers.

9.)Tiger defeats Lion on video shown by lecturer
The Glasgow Herald - March 26, 1937
Unusual studies shown at Glasgow Lecture
A man sitting on the back of a lion, and a fight between a lion and a tiger, were two studies in an interesting selection of slides shown by Mr John S Clarke last night when he gave an illustrated lecture to the Glasgow Zoological Society.
The lecturer himself was the person shown on the back of the lion, and he exhibited many other slides which indicated the remarkable conscience which he has been able to inspire in wild animals. There was one tiger, he said, which he taught to kiss.
Referring to the fight between the lion, and the tiger, he said that in 100 cases out of 100 the tiger would always beat the lion. It was far more agile, it was not so clumsy in its movements, it was equally strong, it was equally armed, but it fought in a different way.
The tiger very often fought rolling on its back and held the lion in its grip until it defeated him. The actual fight shown on the screen indicated the animals in this position, and Mr Clarke remarked, "The lion is doomed."

A-K, for your information,
there is a comprehensive 28 page long review of this subject already posted here.

Its in the 'AE Tavern' section, under the 'Historical Amusement' heading.

The data sets there - make your efforts  in this thread - appear pathetically partisan, agenda-wise,
& thus of very low credibility. This negatively stains your reputation as a contributor here.

Since you are adding nothing to the topic showing even a scintilla of acceptable validated & balanced data at face value, frankly - its a worthless embarrassment, & with standing only as the exemplar of a ludicrous fanboy rant.

Just give it a rest A-K, you are not fooling anyone with your biases,  'cept yourself.
