When Princess Charlotte was born on January 7, 1796, the poet Leigh Hunt wrote, "Such a fine young royal creature - Daughter of England!"    
Charlotte Augusta was the daughter of Prince George, The Prince of Wales and Princess Caroline of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel.      
Princess Charlotte was a happy contrast to her father and her grandfather, King George III of Great Britain.      
People were looking forward to the day when young Queen Charlotte would ascend the throne.

At the time of her birth and of her death, she was the only legitimate grandchild of George III.
