Prince Augustus William of Prussia died on June 12, 1758.     
His son Frederick William II inherited the Prussian throne because Augustus William's older brother, King Frederick II had no children.

Prince Augustus William had been a general in the Silesian War.       
In the Seven Years' War, owing to the retreat of Zittau during the Battle of Kolin in 1756, he incurred the displeasure of King Frederick II and withdrew from the army.
