Princess Victoria Patricia of Connaught was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
The question of Princess Victoria's marriage was an interesting topic of conversation in the Edwardian era.
She was matched with various foreign royals, including King Alfonso XIII of Spain and the Prince of Portugal. Grand Duke Michael of Russia was also mentioned

Well she didn't do too bad...married a man destined to be an Admiral and of royal stock himself. Admiral Hon. Alexander Ramsay.

Anybody who gets a Canadian Light Infantry regiment named after them and is appointed Colonel in Chief..will do in my regiment.

Amen.

Alfonso XIII of Spain was eager to forge a matrimonial alliance with one of King Edward VII's nieces.
All eyes were set on Princess Victoria Patricia of Connaught.
Victoria Patricia was unimpressed by Alfonso.

In 1905, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, Arthur and Louise Margaret, visited the court of King Carlos I and Queen Amelie of Portugal.
Princess Victoria Patricia met the heir, Luis Filipe, and his brother, Prince Manuel (future King Manuel II). No romance developed from these meetings.
When King Manuel visited Britain in the autumn of 1909, he sometimes dined with the Duchess of Connaught and Princess Victoria Patricia. Still no romance developed between the King and Victoria Patricia.

On October 7, 1906, the Chicago Daily Tribune reported:
A marriage has been arranged between Grand Duke Michael, 28, and Princess Patricia of Connaught. The betrothal occurred during the Grand Duke's recent trip to Copenhagen and Scotland. Michael plans to leave Russia in a day or two, and return to London, where the engagement will be announced, after King Edward has given his consent. The news of the engagement is not yet official.

Shortly after his return to Russia, three British newspapers announced on September 24, 1906 that Grand Duke Michael was to marry Princess Patricia of Connaught. Buckingham Palace issued a denial.

If the October 7, 1906 Chicago Daily Tribune article had been an accurate account, Princess Victoria Patricia may have been required to convert to Russian Orthodoxy for Tsar Nicholas II to allow the marriage.
Grand Duke Michael would have needed his brother's consent.
