Ancient/medieval AD serpentine vase - battle story

Good afternoon everyone.
Lately been reading about medieval times and battles a lot.
I have old vase on which is carved a battle story.
Would be great to get some ideas advice from people which are good with medieval times and history and battles itself.

Guys, looking forward for a discussion here regarding this item.

I want to straighten all facts regarding this item.

Which way i see it:

*shields form/shape is - history tells that such shields been use since c11..but i was able to find some information that it been used much more earlier, i might be wrong of course.
*symbol on one off shields..? Wasn't able to find anything regarding this symbol.
*cross on armor - one off soldiers. Which way i see it, there is leader of army and he just only one wears cross, i might be wrong..
*which countries possibly fighting here?
*on bottom of vase i have carved numbers - 418, i don't believe that is is serial number on vase worth to mention i think.
* vase carved from stone/mineral made from 4 different pieces.
