Here's one for ole Red.

''Facts not ‘flexible’ in dating earliest Americans''

''WHO WERE THE VERY FIRST AMERICANS?''

As usual nothing much new.. but.. at least in the later article, you will see that some don't dismiss arbitrarily.. and continue to look at various scenarios.

At first I thought you had some kind of weird Senior Cit. dating site. Big smile

Why izit, all archs. are well aware of "tools of opportunity", but when they are involved in a possible anomalously old site their resolve turns to jelly.

Considering the amount of time and effort needed to produce a "knapped tool" making use of a found tool is just human.  TO's are usually found on seasonal campsites, esp where folks were taking advantage of an abundant environment, and processing food to dry or in some other way preserve food for travel.
Tool making would take up valuable time. Also if they were traveling, they wouldn't want to be hauling a bunch of stone tools that could be easily replaced at the next camp.

Weakness of character perhaps

dunno really. never thought to ask it of any quite that way.

remember these are the lads and lass's who once thought of themselves and called themselves 'antiquarians'. bent on proving anything by merely confirming old classical (Greek-Roman) accounts-descriptions with and for any of their discoveries.

that's easier than figuring out what the hell the stone giants on Easter island initially were all about..as they essentially had no points of reference for many a season.

But with a more moderate willingness to engage in a multi-disciplinary approach to include: physical geography and stratigraphy in particular in their formative years...now many more are included. Anthro...survey techniques..scientific observation..chemical analysis..physics..astronomy..mil history-science etc.

they got better.

they created new methods of classification-excavation-preservation-collation and reporting.

But in the end as once they were tied to ' rich noble sponsors-collectors'...so now and for a long while. they have been tied to uni's and museums...and the grant system. which is to say..don't rock the mainstream frigging boat if ya want 'das geld'.

That's the probably the answer to the question.

I know given my experience with them and others in the Social Sciences it usually was.

Minnesota archaeological dig reveals 2,000-year-old artifacts, campsites

Damn I've fished all over that area but no luck on artifcats. lol

Nearby is Camp Ripley. Trained many a guardsman and reservist there.

Mosquitoes eat yer assets in the summer and colder than hell in winter (wet cold).... but a great area for fishing.
