Good subject for a thread named This Day in History. On August 21, 1944 the Western Allied Army in NW Europe finally closed the ring around much of the German 7th Army and 5th Panzer Army around the town of Falaise in France. The devastating defeat suffered by the German Army opened the way for the liberation of Paris and the advance of the Allied armies to the German border. Estimates of German casualties suffered during what became known as the Battle of the Falaise Pocket range from 60,000 to 100,000 with estimates of escaped Germans ranging from 20,000 to over 50,000.
And as such it belongs under it's own title and not dealing with where it was at.
Thread moved.
