A simple one, but it's one of my favorite messages. I
got it on a card from a British friend:

If you think you are lost, you are.
If you think that you can't, you don't.
If you say you would like to succeed, but doubt
yourself.
You can be certain you won't.

Lifes battles do not always go to the strongest or
fastest man.
For sooner of later, the one who wins, is the woman
who believes she can.

This is a translated work by Armenian poet Avedick Issahakian:

Midst black clouds, frenzied thunderbursts
A petrel, with lightning-struck heart,
Fell onto craggy coastal rocks;
It fell, and was covered with sand and pebble.
Shaggy sea-weeds mantled its grave;
And years passed on in soundless file.

But when clouds in the sky dash head on,
Scramble, and blast forth fire
And lightning into harrowed hearts-
It recalls in silence how in years gone by,
There was in its heart also desire and fire,
Riot and passion, love and sigh...

Salkimsogut (the willow tree) by Nazim Hikmet (the guy you see in my avatar). It is a real tour-de-force in Turkish, loses a lot in translation (scroll down to read in English). Written in 1928.

SALKIMST

Akyordu su
gsterip aynasnda st aalarn.
Salkmstler ykyordu suda salarn!
Yanan yaln kllar arparak stlere
kouyordu kzl atllar gnein batt yere!
Birden
bire ku gibi
              vurulmu gibi
                          kanadndan
yaral bir atl yuvarland atndan!
Barmad,
gidenleri geri armad,
bakt yalnz dolu gzlerle
               uzaklaan atllarn parldayan nallarna!

Ah ne yazk!
          Ne yazk ki ona
drtnal giden atlarn kpkl boynuna bir daha yatmayacak,
beyaz ordularn ardnda kl oynatmayacak!

Nal sesleri snyor perde perde,
atllar kayboluyor gnein batt yerde!

Atllar atllar kzl atllar,
atlar rzgr kanatllar!
Atlar rzgr kanat...
Atlar rzgr...
Atlar...
At...

Rzgr kanatl atllar gibi geti hayat!

Akar suyun sesi dindi.
Glgeler glgelendi
                renkler silindi.
Siyah rtler indi
                mavi gzlerine,
sarkt salkmstler
                   sar salarnn
                                  zerine!

Alama salkmst,
                     alama,
Kara suyun aynasnda el balama!
                                          el balama!
                                                  alama!

...

The Weeping Willow

The water flowed,
it showed
willow trees in its mirror,
weeping willows washing their hair in the stream.
Red riders raced towards the sinking sun,
their flaming swords drawn to strike the willows.
Suddenly
like a bird
           shot
                in the wing
a wounded horseman tumbled from his horse.
He did not shout,
Or call after those who passed,
he just looked with brimming eyes
at the flashing hooves of the riders receding.

Alas!
           alas that he
will never lie again on the foaming necks of his galloping horses,
or brandish his sword chasing after the white armies!

Gradually hoofbeats die away,
the riders are lost in the sunset.

Horsemen, horsemen, red riders,
horses wind winged
horses wind wing.
horses wind.
horses.
horse.

Life passed like wind winged horsemen!

The sound of the running water stopped.
Shadows grew denser
                         colors were wiped away.
Black blinds came down,
                         on his blue eyes,
the weeping willows leant
                         over his fair hair.

Dont weep weeping willow,
                         dont weep,
in the dark mirror of water, dont fold your hands,
                         dont fold your hands,
                                    dont weep.
