Aware of the military value of Da Vinci's automatons, the English, French and Spanish develop clockwork motors capable of propelling ships and road vehicles in the early 16th century. Gliders have begun to take to the skies, armies are equipped with repeating muskets, divers can walk on the seabed, and a primitive steam engine has been constructed, over 200 years before James Watt.
How different would this world be to our own? How enlightened would the people be? Which countries would be the most powerful? What would the state of religion be? When would industrialization begin? And what would life be like in subsequent centuries?

Imagine what the world would be like if Da Vinci's contemporaries took him seriously. 70 years later, Drake and Raleigh might have used steam-powered galleons and rifled cannons to outmaneuver and sink the Spanish Armada
