QuoteReplyTopic: Soghdians, Persian or Iranic? Posted: 29-Apr-2011 at 05:54
Hi I dont know if its the right thread to write but this one was the most proper I think.
Lets
get to the question. Is the tajik iranic or persian I mean , the tajiks
are descents of soghdianans which is not persians but iranic, they
speak and have a different culture than the persians, who come todays
tajiks speak persian instead of their old language, did the persians
persinifia the area of tajiks lived or what was it , also, why do tajiks
live in bukhara, I mean didnt there civilzation only reach inside
ferghana valley and not outside it , please enlighten me
Modern Tajik is just a Persian dialect, but Yaghnobi language which is spoken in Sughd province of Tajikistan can be considered a descendant of Sogdian, there are certainly some differences between Sogdian and Persian languages, however both of them are Iranian and you can find a large number of similar words between them, anyway Tajikistan was part of the Greater Khorasan which became the cultural center of Persians after the fall of Sassanid empire, no one can deny the role Samanids who were originated in the land of Tajiks, in the survival of the Persian culture, in fact the greatest known Persian literary figures, like Rudaki, were from this region.
