JFK was surely an interesting man, too bad he was assasinated

the most important crisis of the 20th century.

I would say "the most important crisis of the second half of the 20th century".

During the 1960s a lot of people built Nuke Shelters. For example, there is a huge Nuke Shelter in every building in Switzerland AND I heard from an old government official that it used to be mandatory for people to have Nuke Shelters. These all concrete "panic rooms" have 3 or 4 layers of thick cement and heavy doors. We use our shelter as a basement like all other people in the building.

Imagine this: "The Swiss turned out to be the only nation which could survive the nuclear destruction"  What would there be left over to survive for?

This crisis later on drived on the cisma between the Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.

Che Guevara was opposed to remove the misiles from the Island and felt betrayed by Kruschev. That's why he had approaches with China.

Here are some useful links for the most important crisis of the 20th century.

Also try to watch the movie "Thirteen Days" by Metropolitan Films and New Line Cinema. Kevin Costner is pretty good.

"It shall be the policy of this nation, to regard any nuclear missile, launched from Cuba on any state in the western hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliotary response upon the Soviet Union"

President John F Kennedy
