Taliban, Saudis etc.. and women?

Ok muslims often say that women are equal or respected in Islam. but Why is it when I look at the most religious muslims of all like the Taliban or Saudis this argument seems like a lie? Why do these people treat women so badly? and how come no muslim scholar in the world ever says any thing against Taliban and Saudis?
