Were the Mound Buiders related to..

...the Mayan people?
I read somewhere that they speculated a connection to the Mayans after the fall of their empire, refugees-????

I have read at least one book on this topic but that was a while ago and theories can change fast. I have also seen something on the history channel about it not too long ago.

I wonder what happened to them?

The tribes the Europeans encountered in the 17-1800's really did not know who built these ancient mounds but the artifacts excavated out of them are incredible.

I am sure there are numerous theories about their demise but what do you know? Please opinions first!
