I must say Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse is one of the smoother beers I've ever had. It pretty much was the only beer I would drink during the few years I lived in Germany(Ansbach). That and fest beer but I'm not even sure what that is. Other then a dangerous brew for fast paced drinkers like myself.

Thanks, I will try this Franziskaner for sure, I've seen it but never tried. UVH's beer I've never seen but I will look for it. German beers are very expansive unfortunately comparing to others .

There are so many beers that taste great, so it's hard to say. Pils, Dunkel, Hefeweizen, Kristallweizen, Weißbier, Alt, Kölsch, Ur-Bock, Mai-Bock and so on and I didn't mention a company's name. If I have to choose just one I would prefer Salvator from Paulaner.

I never had one...you don't get many foreign branches over here. But I've heard someone say that German beers are plain average. Belgian are said to be great and Pilsner Urquell used to be, by some considered the best beer in the world, but today, I don't know it's not that great. But it's quite strong.

Belgian beer is way too sweet for my tastes. Maybe its becasue of all the wheat and Flemmish sweat.
Urquell is really good stuff when fresh.
Lately mine is Blue Moon.

Difficult to say since German beers are best brewed locally and don't travel well. (No beer really travels well.)
If you're ever in the Saarburg area try and visit a little brewery called Mannebach - actually that's in a small town called Mannebach - and drink their beer in their own garden. It's not completely fined however, so that might put people off if they're used to clear beers.
Incidentally kölsch is a local variety not a brand. And Pilsner Urquell on draft is probably the best beer I've drunk, though I've not drunk it in the Czech republic.

Good beer definantely doesn't travel. Hence the market dominance of mass production fizzy pop beers such as Heinekan, Fosters and so on, that have gone through so many industrial prcosses and have so many additives there's little left to call them beer.
Never really found German beer, except when in Germany. They do some good beers in the south and some pretty average stuff in the north. They don't seem to export beer though, (other than the fizzy pops like Becks), so it difficult to find outside Germany.
As for the beers mentioned above. If beer's bought in a bottle and not live, I'd be very suspicious of the quality.

I don't know much about beer, but I have tried Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse and didn't like it. I can't relly recommend any german beer, but one think I know: a german teacher of mine said that the best beer is Czech and not German.

the German beer tradition and those of the Czechs or Bohemians is liked very close. I think it's hard to say which nation is better. I think it depends what favorite taste you have.

As for our beer, well, I kinda dislike them and prefer the Czech ones. I've heard that Šariš is a good beer though. As for Zlatý Bažant and Kelt (not even talking about Gemer), these are junk.
