I don't see how a conquistadore could match up with the quick sword of the sammurai.

The conquistadore swordsmen were known variously as rodeleros ("shield-bearers") and espadachins ("swordsmen"). They wore various types of armor (3/4 or 1/2 plate, maille, brigandines, native Aztec armor, etc), used a round shield either of wood reinforced with steel, or all steel (rodela), and a straight, tapered, double-edged, complex-hilted cut-and-thrust sword (espada). They were highly trained, and were among the best swordsmen in Europe at that time. I think a Spanish rodelero could really give a samurai a run for his money, actually.
