Topic: NEW SERVER - Your Opinion Please Posted: 25-Sep-2007 at 09:54 |
The move to the new server went smoothly, no loss of data and we have reopened an hour sooner than expected.
After taking the new server in full use, please post your opinion about the general difference from the old one, in this thread.
The primary purpose for swithing servers was to get rid of speed and lag problems, but please post any opinion you might have, good or bad.

Well, I haven't had a lot of time to test it out. Still, I ran a few test-searches, and got results far more quickly than I ever did on the old server. I'll test it out a bit tomorrow, and give you something a bit more conclusive.

Runs a lot smoother and more quickly...I like it.

I ditto Constantine! It seems to be a lot smoother and speedier. Time will tell ultimately, but I think it's looking good!

Indeed. So far so good. This is actually exciting to be sifting through pages without hesitation.

This is so much faster! What a relief to be able to scoot through the threads without all the waiting and stalling and hoping to get through and not lose your whole post!

The speed is so much faster and smoother! It is a luxury indeed.
I have not posted enough yet to see if there are any of the old problems left over. I am assuming that they are gone as well. Has anyone experienced the annoying error message that we used to get when posting?

...everything appears to be much better here, and thank heavens, much speedier as well.....it was so frustrating to be held up on many occasions by 'hanging' pages on a forum that by its very nature, was exploratory due to all the page topics on offer....an improvement indeed...

Suren; can you not post "uploaded" pictures, or ones off the net? As in, using the upload function (the little button with the tree on it, in "post reply"), or using the [ i m g ][ / i m g ] code? (without the spaces)

OK. I'll test if mine works - try do the same (in this thread).
OK. The image appeared in 'post reply', hopefully it works in the post. EDIT: OK, it worked. Make sure the image is <60KB (though I think the server tells you if it is, and disallows the upload). I'm not extremely tech-savvy, but maybe firewalls or something don't allow you to upload things? Maybe Northman can sort it out.

Mine works fine. It's much faster, but has quirks. Northman will smooth things out I'm sure.

One of the other things I noticed, in the Active Users list, is that most of the search bots and fake users have disappeared. I am sure this has taken considerable strain off the server load, not having all these bots trying to reply and search.
