This is a question for anyone living in Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the PRC -- or anywhere in fact if families are speaking Chinese.  By what age are children expected to begin speaking?  And how many words does a child typically know after breathing for one or two years?  Your answers will help settle a very friendly debate.  Thank you.
