Periyar advocated conversion to Islam to get rid of Hindu slavery
many people here are spreading the rumour that the great leader periyar was anti-islam but in fact he advocated islam and loved prophet Muhammad(pbuh) because he often remarked that the prophet was the person who always advocated brotherhood of all humanity.he fell short of converting to islam but respected islam greatly. it is our duty as good human beings to salute this great personality who always fought for justice and follow his ideals.
Periyar advocated conversion to Islam to get rid of Hindu slavery
Periyar E.V. Ramaswamy, to whom Dalit Voice has assigned the No.2
status after Babasaheb Ambedkar as the greatest revolutionary of
"independent" India, was a great admirer of Muslims and Islam. It is
true Periyar did not believe in any religion. However, he was also the
bitterest critic of Hinduism. But Islam he liked. As India's greatest
rationalist he found it close to his heart.Dalit Sahitya Akademy had
published Periyar's speech, Salvation to Shudra Slavery (1986, pp.42,
only photocopy available) with our Foreword in which he asked the
shudras to embrace Islam to get rid of their slavery suffered under
Hinduism. We are reproducing passages from a booklet, Periyar &
Islam (Critical Quest, 2004 pp.32 Rs. 20) to answer our critics who
always question the coverage we give in Dalit Voice to Muslims. The
answer is found in the words of Periyar. That even Dr. Ambedkar was not
anti-Muslim is brought out in Dr. Anand Teltumbde's book, Ambdkar on
Muslims (2003, pp.100 Rs. 75, Vikas Adhyayan Kendra, Bombay). It is our
oppressors, the Brahminical people, who are against Muslims and Islam.
Should we not love what the Enemy hates? This is what we have been doing
in DV? Over 70% of Indian Muslims are converts from SC/ST/BCs, our
blood brothers. Our family members are requested to study both these
books EDITOR. http://www.dalitvoice.org/Templates/oct_a2005/articles.htm

Periyar advocated conversion to Islam to get rid of Hindu slavery
This is stupid, conversion to islam should be because someone belief islam. Not because someone try to get rid of something.

It is good that he did not convert to Islam, not because it would have been anything harmfull to Hinduism, but because Muhammad & Allah were at least saved from the humiliation of being garlanded with slippers & their caricatures blackened with human & animal faeces & paraded all around the city on donkeys & then burnt in Public.
The sort of treatment he gave to gods & prophets is somethng no sane person would like to be done even to the Gods & Prophets of his worst enemy.

Periar earlier said that
"He who created god was a fool, he who spreads his name is a scoundrel, and he who worships him is a barbarian."
and later he advocated for conversion from one religion to other.
These two satements are contradictory. Either Periyar was a mad man or he is misquoted.

well be careful on your remarks on ALLAH and his Prophet. and yes ap singh the quote is misquoted.i have studied the life history of periyar and he was a good man who loved prophet Muhammad(pbuh)very much because he believed Islam was the only religion that advocated universal brotherhood and thought the oppressed people(dalits, blacks, poor, etc)to fight for their rights and fight really hard.

Hi Periyar,
I am a born Hindu and my country India being a Great secular and democratic nation I am not a religious fanatic. I believe that Allah, God, Ishwar all are the various names in different languages of the same Almighty who created the Universe. Allah was there before the birth of the prophet and was not created by him but was worshipped in a different name in a different form. Being a Hindu I have never ever been forced by any Brahmin to do anything, so why to blame them. Moreover most of the reformist of Hindu religion are Brahmins themselves and hence I think it is not proper to target to write anything disrespectful about one particular section of the society.
I dont know much about Islam but today also I have read in News Paper that there is another Imrana case in West Bengal where a Muslim woman is raped before her four growing children by a Muslim and the Muslim panchayat is not allowing her to stay with her husband who still want to keep her. The religious teachers are demanding INR 18000/- from him which he is unable to pay. These kind of stories keep appearing in the news about Muslim Fatwas and no where the universal brotherhood is reflected from these fatwas and oppressed people are still being oppressed in the name of religion.

Given that this thread was opened by a now banned member, doesn't have
much historical value, and comes dangerously close to religious
preaching. I'm going to lock this thread for peoples health and sanity.
If anybody does want it open, please PM me about it.
