Mordor, at the time of the 3 books/movies. vs Tang China, under the rule of Tang Tai-tsung (I think that's how you spell it...)

no Tang China would definately win. Morodor is weak in cavalry so the Tang armored horse could route them from teh field and outflank them. There arent enough of those worg things to make a difference. Plus Taizong is clearly a better ruler than Sauron.

Totally agree. Urukhai that Saruman created were
slaughtered by the King Theoden's cavalry. These
Urukhai were better than the orcs of mordor. Come
to think of it, I think Romans would have kicked their
butts too.

well those mercenaries are kinda middle-easterny, and Tang china could beat the turks pretty well...as for combating the larger creatures, giant ballista sized crossbows would work, as would importing thier own elephants from Burma.
god, this is such an awesome topic
and anyway, if one fruity elf who cant act can take out a whole oliphant crew well then tang china shouldnt have a problem...

Thats funny,I say Tang China.Mordor's Army is too unorganized and the Orcs are too ridged and untrustworthy to one another, and could kill eachother at any given time.Even with the Haradrim(Mumakil Riders)and the Easterlings helping the Orcs, along with the Wargs,Tang China might have a chance. But the Mountain Trolls, now thats a different story entirely!

well, in the movie the orc-hoplites were charged by those unarmorued Viking style cavalry, so if a phalanx from Mordor can't even stand a chance against a cavalry charge then it's worth nothing!

Tang might have a chance if they had the archers like Qin's and those martial art heroes in "Hero" and "House of the flying daggers"

Bah...I would bring 100 Oliphants right in front of the gate to Beijing and make a pk battle with all Chinese men in horses like another Morder vs Riders of Rohan battle...Should be pretty entertaining stepping over the horses :p But better watch out for the ballistas!

The army of mordor are primarily infantry army.
Cavalry will kick their butts. The mountain trolls are too
slow and the ring wraith are too few.

Yeah I thought the uruk hai phalanx vs. viking cavalry scene was kinda sad. But the decisive factor was the lack of sunglasses.

Tang China would crush Mordor. The Chinese are superior in technology, organization, and numbers. Oliphaunts and trolls would be a problem, but would eventually be brought down by crossbows, or perhaps siege equipment.

There's one thing you guys are forgetting. Sauron could have had in his grasp an ally that would knock out any foe. Sadly, he got killed by King Bard.
By the way, how would the chinese behave against Morgoth's army?

Didnt Morgoth have Balrogs? The chinese did not have any Gandalfs. And those balrogs are huge and Tang would have no way to defeat them.

They could just shoot over some confucianist pamphlets to bore them to death.

Actually, most of the Balrogs had been slain before the time of the War of the Ring. And about the Orcs being unorganized... well, they weren't totally unorganized, and they didn't necesarilly fight amongst themselves, especially when the higher ups gave them orders. Tang might have a decent chance. Now, if this were the Tang versus the armies of Melkor, the Dark Lord, during the First Age, I'd say that the Tang would have little chance.
