first i'd like to say that it's nice to have a section like this for those that have hw or wht not and at the same time, it can b for those that are curious. i mean some forums would just blow u away cuz u have hw or a paper or wht not. anyways, i decided to put my question here instead of world history cuz this is really nice ^_^ way to make the ppl feel welcomed :D
ok am looking for info about algeria at that period of time when it was at war with france. like in the 1930s the french celebrated a century of ruling algeria. that it was a part of france. well we all know that the french werent successful simply because algeria now isnt part of france but in the 1930s they thought it was. there was opposition to the french rule prior to 1914 in algeria. there were a few major goals behind it, some of which motivated the algerians a great deal. so there you have it, am looking for sites that talk about these incidents or anything closely related comments and suggestions are welcomed of course
There was a conflict in Algeria imminently before WWI? I only know of
the Kabylie War (or the Kabilye Revolt as some say it), which ocurred
in 1871, closest to 20th century.
umm ppl lets focus here lol no one has info or sites in regards to my topic? well at least r there any sources links to algeria and france at that period?
The only war I can think about between WWI and WWII is the Rif War. Yet the islamists and the communists weren't exactly calm and one in the steps of Hobsbawn could interpret the high rate of delinquency in N. Africa in those days as a un- or mis-guided popular unrest.
I'm too lazy to look for sites but the most famous french historian for these questions is Benjamin Stora.
Are you suppossed to be covering the Algerian War of Independance? I'm afraid I cant quite understand everything you write.
In which case I'd advise you to read "Pacification in Algeria; 1956-8" by David Galula for a "ground pounders view".Its available as a free PDF from the RAND organisation.
