Good question - not only do I have no idea - I don't even know where to begin looking to find out. It has a modern feel to it - when did we start using scissors to cut paper? If it's comonly played in Asia it could be older - paper reached Europe much later. Scissors in one form or another have been around a long time - but didn't Come into common use until the Renaissance. The word scissors came into English through Old French, from the Latin caesus. Wikipedia did have an article tracing the origin back to Rome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock%2C_Paper%2C_Scissors#Histo ry
The most modern version that I have run into is Foot - Cockroach - Nuclear Bomb
Foot squashes cockroach - Nuclear Bomb kills foot - cockroach survives even Nuclear Devastation
The only thing that we can really learn from this is - if we're discussing it - we have way too much time on our hands.
