I think Shakespeare wins simply due to his prolific output - so many of his works have survived (in so many different versions). Additionally, his plays still today - as they did at his time, not only relate a story, but touch the very fundamental human issues in a way that allows almost everyone to relate to the story.
How many reworkings of Romeo and Juliet have there been since he first wrote it? Even up through the modern film versions and West Side Story, the tale is still valid and touches a great nuber of people.
