What to you is the most Sucsesfull empire in history,Alexanders or maybe French colonial.Mine is the brititsh empire under queen victoria.But whats yours?

I'm kind of torn, in regards to three on your list. In terms of length of duration: The Chinese and Roman empires. In terms of the ultimate extension in size, would be the British empire. Who to vote for, who to vote for...???

Keep in mind that the British empire, was not the only empire in which the "sun never set".

Actualley the spanish empire was the first empire for the sun never to set on once they conquered the phillipines,followed by russia then britan.

For what the British Empire had in size, it certainly lacked in humanity to people thought of 'lesser' than them.
 
They had a large navy and diverted mass amounts of their own peoples to their colonies in an age when discovery was very prevelant among the European Powers.
 
The British Empire lasted how long 300, 250 years? Yeah, no competition Roman Empire that ruled for more than 1000 years and the way they kept their territories under control and how they survived for this long is the true befuddlement of the world.
 
Not to damper the hopes of the British but quite simply when comparing the British Empire to the Roman Republic and Roman Empire, the British Empire is a mere infant.

I realize that this may be unconventional...

The Inka Empire, (or Tawantinsuyu.)

The only reason I give them a higher rating as most successful than the romans (my first thought for who to vote for) is that they made a truly huge domain, bigger than ming dynasty china or Peter the Great's Russia, without beasts of burden besides the llama, without using steel or iron (I realize that they had very effective tools, and were very good smiths, but lets' face it-steel and iron are EXTREMELY useful, far more so than bronze or copper, for more than just weapons or armor), and started from more or less nothing, just as the romans did. Thus, I consider their accomplishments slightly more impressive, given certain limitations they lived with. And their ability to make their more-or-less communist economic system actually work very well bespeaks incredible skill. As does their capacity for hegemonically extending their political control.

andrew the romans were hardly the most caring of conquerers, and after all the british empire was never conquered a claim the roman empire can not make.

Also the romans constantly paid tribute to potential barbarian tribes that threatened to raid them.

The british empire is new york compared to the romans model village.

Yes, the Inca Empire had many achievements, and perhaps the most important was that people lived relatively well in there and wasn't expossed to the continuos hunger and wars that affected other regions of the world at the time.
 
Now, I wonder if the people itself was so happy under it. It was a "socialist" Empire indeed. Or rather, an absolute monarchy that regulated every aspect of life, from what to wear to what to eat. Even wives were chosen by the bourocrats.
 
With respect to technology, the Incas have commerce with llama caravans from central Chile and northern Argentina up to Ecuador. From there there was also interchange with Central America along the Pacific coast on balsa rafts. Incas build hanging bridges, stone roads, knew the principle of refrigeration, were master metalurgist that invented authomatic wind furnaces, used copper axes as coin, produced some of the best textiles ever, had air pressure toys and convex mirrors to start fires, had topographic tools to trace straight lines miles long on the ground, build large buildings, recorder events in accounting strings, the music bands of theirs times could reproduce all the tonal diversity of classical music, etc.
 
For the people that today lives in the lands of former Inca Empire it doesn't seem primitive at all. The more we know about it the more we admire it.
 
What is certain is that it was the largest state in the pre-contact Americas and perhaps the most organized.

The Punjabi Empire began in 330 and ended in 571 CE. It began by Mirza Gulab Jamun and spread over the Indus continent in South Asia. They invented many forms of mithai.

Convex mirrors for starting fire? How is that done ?

I would list down the best empires of today. I have given importence to age of the empire, it's continuity, whether present or not in today's world. (How can we consider an empire successful if it has been wiped out or is just a shade of what it was earlier. Those that have preserved & been what they were thousands of years back would be the most successful):


1. Chinese -  One of the oldest, still existing & prospering, all iots old values intact. So successfull that the whole empire has become one nation.

2. India - Again one of the oldest, but still exactly the same culture as it was thousands of years ago. Not as big as Russia or China but quite big & thriving well.

3. Russia  - The biggest empire in terms of size though not age, It's success is that it is till very much united, growing & prospering

Small convex hand held mirrors made of bronze. They were pointed to the sun and focus into some dry grass, so the ceremonial fires stars. The god Inti himself (the sun) it was supposed to light the fire. Actually the principle is the same that lighting fire with a magnifying glass.
 
I couldn't find a picture on the web, but documentation exists in paper.

That's true. The Spanish empire extended through Europe, North Africa, the Americas up to the Phillipines, and even a small post in Ecuatorial Guinea, Africa. I wonder, though if in the Portuguese dominions the sun never set either.
