QuoteReplyTopic: Who's Going To Buy All Those Cars? Posted: 21-Sep-2016 at 10:29
My home town sits on a major regional traffic corridor. Within a 6mile stretch there are no less than 6 large car dealers.
Their lots are huge and loaded with hundreds of new cars. The problem I see is there aren't many folks in their showrooms. And the lines of cars seem to be static.
The media is loaded with dealer ads from all over the region, and matched only by the manufacturer ads. The tone of these ads is starting to edge toward desperation.
On browsing one of the dealers near me I was astounded to find a few hundred unsold 2014-15 models and they were unloading a truckload of new models.
What the hell is going on? The days of rampant consumerism are long gone. The car co.s don't seem to have adjusted to this and are over producing.
Production on speculation in todays climate is a recipe for disaster.
The Government had to bail Detroit out of their last crisis, but it doesn't seem that they learned anything from that.
But this time the foreign companies seem to be going down the same road.
